The South West region with its miles of craggy coastline, sandy beaches,
historic towns, picturesque lighthouses and quaint fishing villages
has come to epitomize Nova Scotia.
|
Many visitors have found the lure of the sea and the lifestyle it
represents irresistible, and have either moved to the province, plan
to retire here, or maintain a summer residence on the coast.
Despite the popularity of Nova Scotia real estate (in South West Nova
Scotia in particular) there are numerous opportunities still available.
There are spectacular oceanfront and beachfront properties and historic
homes for sale; pristine waterfront land available, perfect for a summer
cottage or an artist’s studio and numerous other property listings from
large tracts of undeveloped wood land to older homes requiring a new
owner’s vision and restoration.

The Bay of Fundy is not only geographically important to South West
Nova Scotia, it is the one of the most important fishing regions in
Atlantic Canada, and one of the most sensitive environmental areas
in North America.
In summer, it is also home to more than eight
species of whales that are attracted to large schools of herring
and mackerel, which feed on plankton in the Bay. There are common
humpback whales, pilot whales, minke whales and the rare and
threatened, right whales.
Brier and Long Islands, off Digby Neck, in the Bay of Fundy is among
the most popular whale watching regions in North America. A visit to
the islands makes for an exciting day trip for travelers to Nova Scotia
and a whale watching tour of the Bay of Fundy is something the whole
family will enjoy. Mariner Cruises
of Westport, Brier Island is one of several, family-owned, boat tour
operators in the region.
